Accredited National Tuition Partner

Methodmaths Face to Face Booster Days

What is the National Tutoring Programme?

The National Tutoring Programme is a key model supported by the government to help students catch up after the disruption caused by the pandemic. The good news is that the funding of this scheme is in addition to existing support programmes, such as Pupil Premium and Pupil Premium Recovery.

In the academic year 22/23, schools are given an allocation of funding based on their Pupil Premium numbers to spend on tuition. This is not ring fenced just for pupil premium students. Schools will be expected to contribute 40% of the tuition cost from other budgets. For every £10,000 spent on tutoring, schools can utilise a £6,000 subsidy. To find out how much grant your school will receive for the purposes of additional tutoring, you will find this link useful.

Although a school will automatically receive this funding in instalments across the year, they will be expected to complete an audit of tuition hours completed and any unused funds will be reclaimed by the government.

We are delighted to announce that the DFE has recognised the great tuition service we have been providing schools and we are now an officially accredited National Tuition Partner. This means that schools can us as an external partner and still utilise the government subsidy available.

How can Methodmaths Booster Days Help

One thing the pandemic taught us is how valuable face to face teaching is. Even with the highest quality online resources, learning is still most effective with teachers to support and motivate. Our booster days take an innovative approach by combining our state of the art technology (that captures ongoing progress) with highly qualified leaders in Maths education with outstanding track records in student outcomes. Whilst schools may choose to employ their own staff to deliver tuition under the school led approach, we provide an alternative model which reduces teacher workload and creates high quality additional capacity.

 Our Delivery Model

Based on a 15 hour tuition block and charged at the average £18 per hour per pupil rate (only £7.20 after the subsidy), we can offer schools the following membership packages. In both cases we can deliver these in your school or another local venue of your choice during term time or in holidays/weekends to limit the impact on school workload and valuable curriculum time.

Our team will work closely with your Maths department to identify up to 15 topics that your chosen pupils need to master and we make it our mission to achieve this goal. Each topic is taught with a commitment to conceptual understanding and a strong awareness of techniques that lead to long term retention. At the end of each booster day, students are invited to complete topic specific questions on methodmaths to both consolidate and capture learning. This information is shared with schools throughout the programme.

Not only are our team hugely experienced in Maths education, we also have age specific expertise and can support pupils from year 5 up to year 12.

Full day 3 x 5 hour workshops

For a highly intensive but impactful experience we can offer 3 day programmes either spread across the year or clustered together during a key window in your school calender.

Half day 5 x 3 hour workshops

If you prefer a slightly more ‘little and often’ approach we can offer half day options where we work with two different cohorts each day across the 5 days. This enables you to expose more students to high quality tuition.

In both cases we work with cluster sizes of 30 pupils ensuring that we have an outstanding teaching team of ASTs, SLEs or HODs in place to maintain a good teacher student ratio. The EEF research suggests a 3:1 model is optimal but it also suggests that the quality of tutors is as important as the size of the group.
